200 Hour Teacher Training Details

This unique experiential learning approach provides the student with all the tools to teach Yoga and engage in a meaningful discovery of your true self. Your Teacher Training program is a 200 Hour training representing a combination of intensive study along with a distance-learning component. The instruction is for traditional Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga and exceeds the Yoga School Certification Standards of Yoga Alliance.

During the training, you will be totally immersed in learning with your peers and trainers. This can be incredibly rewarding and intense at the same time. In order to complete the course and qualify to register with Yoga Alliance 200 hour certification, you must attend all aspects of the course requirements, along with personal development such as reading, assignments, and practice teaching requirements.

Course Curriculum Overview

  • Yoga philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics for Yoga Teachers: 30 hours
  • Creating A Life Of Purpose, Happiness, and Prosperity: 15 hours
  • Anatomy and Physiology: 20 hours
  • Technique, Theory, and Practice of Asana: 100 hours
  • Theory and Practice Teaching: 25 hours
  • Practicum: 15 hours

Our schools’ professional standards and ethics meets and exceeds the Standards Of Yoga Alliance and are reflected in the school’s curriculum and the experience of the faculty. Our School has been developed with the same set of values we adhere to every day at our Studios.

Our Local Training Facilities

We have 3 unique Yoga studios located in the City of Halifax: Dartmouth, Downtown Halifax, and Bedford. Our custom eco-designed studios offer over 12,000 sq. feet of space, with five practice rooms and a cozy lounge area where students can read, have tea, or just relax. Our spacious change rooms are equipped with spa-like shower facilities, large vanities, lockers, and filtered water.


  • No prior training is required to apply for our Yoga Teacher Training.
  • A curiosity and a desire to learn supported by a regular practice is a great background to move forward with a formal training.

  • Light of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali – B.K.S. Iyengar
  • Yoga Anatomy – Leslie Kaminoff

Please note that the required reading list (in particular the Yoga Sutras and Hatha Yoga Pradipika) are not books that must be read cover to cover. They should be examined for a basic understanding and foundation of the key principles of Yoga and will serve as a reference book down the road.

Your Teachers

Uriel MacGillivary E-RYT 500 Hour, Reiki Master

Uriel is a yoga teacher, an entrepreneur, and a leader of transformational Yoga teacher trainings and retreats across the Globe.  She is the founder of Shanti Yoga Studios and the Shanti Traditional School of Yoga based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Having held senior management and marketing roles in Corporate Canada for twenty years she answered the call to become a yoga teacher.  A life-changing journey to India to study the ancient teachings would transform her life. Overnight she walked away from everything that she knew and started a phase in her life that would take her on the adventure of a lifetime.

Stepping into her true purpose she recognized that students longed for the same deep transformation in their lives.  Her studios and teaching philosophy are guided by the values of the time-honored wisdom teachings of the yoga tradition.

Led by masters such as the late Georg Feurerstein, of the Traditional School of Yoga and world-renowned yoga and meditation teacher Rod Stryker she is a student for life. Having studied Tantra, Vinyasa Krama, and Iyengar yoga, she brings a multi-disciplinary approach to her teaching.

My vision is clear she says:  “I believe in the power of yoga to transform lives and inspire students to awaken their soul’s calling”.

Taylor MacGillivary (E-RYT 500)

Taylor’s curiosity of Yoga practice came quickly after doing his first Teacher Training in 2011. He  feels a close connection with the traditional practices of Yoga, practicing and teaching with Sri. T. Krishnamacharya’s lineage as his guide. Taylor approaches Yoga practice as medicine for your body and your mind. Staying true to Yoga’s origins while keeping practice light and accessible is what he strives for in his teaching. Taylor draws on 1000 + hours of study, ranging from contemporary Canadian teacher Ryan Leier, who has served as Taylor’s main influence, to his latest study with traditional Indian master Srivatsa Ramaswami, a 30+ year student of Krishnamacharya, the man responsible for Yoga’s expansion into the world as we know it today.

Since 2014, Taylor has been co-leading Shanti’s 200 hour teacher training and leading retreats around the Globe.  He  has an immense passion for Yoga philosophy, the contemporary nature of Yoga, and a never ending curiosity in body mechanics.

Kyla MacKinnon (E-RYT 500)

Kyla is inspired by the act of leading others and empowering them to live their truth. She believes in the power of connecting breath and movement with those around her. Throughout her life, she has enjoyed coaching people and creating a space where they feel comfortable and confident in order to reach their full potential. From her 800 hours of training, she vows to keep the tradition of Krishnamacharya’s yoga lineage alive thanks to one of her great teachers, Ryan Leier.

Kyla will incorporate a balance of strength and serenity into her teachings during the program.  Her compassionate nature makes her a perfect fit as the YTT student liaison. She gives herself fully to new trainees who need guidance and support during the training.

Fee & Refund Details

  • Application Fee & Deposit are non-refundable.
  • Full payment is due 90 days in advance of the beginning of the training.
  • If a participant needs to cancel, 50% of the payment after deposit can be refunded between 60-90 days and 25% of the payment after deposit can be refunded between 30-60 days.
  • Please understand that no refund is possible within 30 days of the start date.
